Learn the Important Roulette Terms
As with any other game, roulette has its own set of terms that indicates the mechanisms and the rules of the game. Some players who want to try the game of roulette find roulette terms to be quite intimidating and sophisticated. Therefore, here is a short list of the important roulette terms and a brief explanation for each:
Betting Types The most commonly-used roulette terms are the ones that refer to the betting types. Here are the kinds of bets on the roulette wheel:
A bet on a sole number on the wheel (straight up), gives you a payout ratio of 35:1. This means that if you bet 1 dollar and win, you get 36 dollars in all.
The two-number kind of bet, or the split bet, is betting on a combination of two numbers. When the ball lands on any of the two,and you bet 1 dollar, you get back 18 dollars in all (a payout ratio of 17:1).
The street bet is a multiple wager of three numbers, and it pays 11 to 1.
The corner bet is a multiple bet on four numbers, and it pays 8 to 1.
The dozen bets are bets on the 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36. They all pay 2 to 1.
The red-black-odd-even and the 1-18 and 19-36 bets pay 1 to 1.
Betting Systems Roulette terms also include betting systems. Such betting system is the En Prison Rule and the La Partage Rule:
The En Prison Rule is one of the unfamiliar roulette terms to first-timers. The En Prison Rules is brought up when a player puts an outside-even bet and the ball has landed to a zero. The croupier offers the player the option of losing half of his bet or putting his money "En Prison". When the ball has landed to the player's favor after the next round of spinning, then the player gets to keep the bet.
The La Partage Rule is implemented at the absence of the En Prison Rule. The La Partage Rule takes half of the bet of the player who loses an outside-even bet to a zero. There is no agreement of a second spin.
By the Roulette Wheel There are also a few roulette terms that refer to the dealers by the roulette table:
The Croupier is a casino employee who operates the roulette wheel. He or she is the one who announces when the bets should be made.
The Mucker is the second dealer in charge of arranging the chips on the table. He or she is also responsible for giving out the winnings to the croupier, who hands out the chips back to the players.
Knowing the proper roulette terms is a way to familiarize oneself on the roulette table. However, such terms are quite easy to remember once the players start betting their money. Nevertheless, it is never a wise decision to wager money on a game that a player has no clue about.
